What skills will my teen gain from this workshop? They will learn how to choose and prepare audition songs, present themselves professionally, and develop confidence for in-person auditions. Scene work will also help them with acting and collaboration.
-
Does my teen need prior experience in theater or auditions? No prior experience is required! Just an openness and a willingness to learn. This workshop is designed for both beginners and those looking to refine their skills.
-
What should my teen bring to the workshop?Participants should bring 2 of their favorite audition songs (complete versions), have them memorized so that we can work on cutting them properly, and be prepared for scene work. It is also encouraged they bring something to write with if they would like to take notes.
-
How can this workshop help my teenager get into college musical theater programs? These skills are transferable to musical theater program auditions. While this workshop focuses on song selection and acting techniques, it does not include monologue preparation. MT program auditions often have specific requirements, and individual coaching is essential to ensure your teen is fully prepared for each school's unique expectations. This workshop provides a valuable taste of what goes into preparing for an MT program audition and helps build foundational skills.
-
Who is teaching this workshop, and what are their qualifications?I am a professional actor with extensive experience in the industry. I hold a BFA in Musical Theater from the Boston Conservatory and am based in Manhattan. My career has taken me around the globe, performing with professional touring companies, working in regional theater alongside Broadway directors and original cast performers. In addition to my acting experience, I am a certified coach specializing in helping artists understand their unique brand, gain clarity to ensure they are following the most fulfilling path, and build confidence. My approach is both effective and efficient, tailored to meet the specific needs of each artist.
-
Is there a dress code or any specific attire required?Comfortable clothing that allows for free movement is recommended. Dressing as they would for an audition is optional but can help them get into the mindset.
-
What happens if my teen is shy or nervous? The workshop is a supportive and encouraging environment designed to build confidence, no matter their starting point.
-
Will there be one-on-one feedback during the workshop?Yes, each participant will receive personalized feedback on their song selections and scene work.
-
How do I know if this workshop is the right fit for my teen?If they’re interested in performing arts, preparing for auditions, or gaining confidence in their presentation skills, this workshop is a great fit.
-
Can I stay and watch the workshop? The workshop is structured for participants only to ensure they can fully focus on the experience. While I understand the desire to watch your child grow, they often thrive best when they feel free from the pressure of being observed by someone they know. Trust the process, and let yourself be pleasantly surprised by their growth when you see their performance afterward.
-
Do I need to prepare anything in advance?Bringing your chosen songs and having them memorized beforehand will help you make the most of the session. Come ready to learn and perform.
-
What if I want more personalized help for my teen after the workshop?I offer 1-on-1 coaching sessions for more in-depth, personalized guidance.
-
I haven’t auditioned in years. Is this workshop suitable for me?Absolutely! Whether you’re getting back into the industry or starting fresh, this workshop will help you build confidence and refine your skills.
-
What should I bring to the workshop?Bring 2 songs you feel comfortable performing (full versions) and be ready to participate in callback-style scene work. It is also encouraged that you bring something to write with in case you would like to take notes.
-
Will this workshop help me with self-tape auditions? While this workshop teaches transferable skills for self-tape auditions, it is not specifically focused on camera or film/TV techniques. The workshop is designed for in-person auditions, with an emphasis on musical theater presentation. Film and TV auditions require a different approach, particularly in terms of subtlety and style. This workshop focuses on acting within a song and during a scene, making it ideal for those looking to strengthen their on-stage skills.
-
Is this workshop only for musical theater performers? This workshop is primarily focused on on-stage presentation and is geared toward the world of musical theater. However, the skills learned in this setting are highly transferable and can provide a strong foundation for TV and film. It’s often said that it’s easier to adapt stage skills to the screen than the other way around, making this workshop valuable for performers of all backgrounds.
-
What if I don’t feel confident singing or acting? This workshop is designed to be supportive and encouraging, helping you build the confidence to present your best self in auditions.
-
How will this workshop help me land roles? This workshop ensures you’re fully prepared when opportunities arise. While auditions may not come often, being ready when they do is crucial. You’ll leave with a strong audition cut of 16 and 32 bars, along with a deeper understanding of how professional musical theater auditions are conducted. Preparation sets you miles apart from others—many people walk into audition rooms completely unprepared (and trust me, it’s more common than you think!). By being proactive and polished, you’ll position yourself as a standout candidate every time.
-
What’s the group size? The workshop is limited to 10 participants to ensure everyone receives focused attention.
-
What if I want more personalized help after the workshop?I offer 1-on-1 coaching sessions for more in-depth, personalized guidance.
